I am Kimberly Wong-Harwood, owner & instructor at North Peace Piano. We decided to switch from in-person lessons to virtual lessons earlier this year and are thrilled to let you know that they work just as good as in-person lessons, with more added benefits! In the past 6 months of online lessons, we’ve settled in and figured out that there’s nothing we used to teach in-person that we can’t teach online!
Because of the fact that they’re virtual lessons, you get a recording of each lesson so that if you forget how to do something, you can always go back and see, which has been a HUGE perk.Â
Students aren't having to wait until their next scheduled lesson if they missed something, or didn't quite get it...all lessons are recorded and they can reference them over and over!
As it was with in-person lessons, we encourage a parent to be there with their child during the lesson, at least for the first few, especially if they’re young, so that you can help place their fingers in a certain spot (if needed).Â
Each student gets weekly progress reports, practice instructions, and homework to do. Going virtual has also opened up a door of apps and games, which allow us to make mini-virtual events and mini-competitions on weekends to further engage students!
Online lessons have also created more independence in students, leading them faster to where we want them to be as musicians at every stage.Â
Our students are progressing faster now than they were with in-person lessons!Â
